Saving Lives at JAS: A New Surgical Monitor

At Joint Animal Services, one question is always top of mind: What can we do better to improve the care we provide animals?

Recently, Friends of JAS helped answer that question by purchasing a new, more sophisticated surgical vital signs monitor for the JAS veterinary clinic, made possible through donations from our supporters.

The new monitor allows the veterinary team to keep a much closer eye on an animal’s vital signs throughout surgery. Changes during a procedure can sometimes be subtle, and identifying those changes quickly gives the veterinary team more time to respond appropriately—helping improve the likelihood of a good outcome.

This equipment is especially valuable during longer and more complicated procedures, such as amputations, eye removals, and other surgeries that require careful monitoring over an extended period of time.

Having this technology available allows the JAS veterinary team to perform more complex procedures with an added measure of safety. For animals who might otherwise have limited treatment options, that can make an enormous difference.

Better equipment means better care—and, ultimately, more lives saved.
